Maize Breeding for Low Nitrogen Inputs in Agriculture: Mechanisms Underlying the Tolerance to the Abiotic Stress

چکیده

Nitrogen (N) is essential for sustaining life on Earth and plays a vital role in plant growth thus agricultural production. The excessive use of N fertilizers not only harms the economy, but also environment. In context environmental impacts caused by agriculture, global maize improvement programs aim to develop cultivars with high N-use efficiency (NUE) reduce fertilizers. Since highly mobile plants, NUE related numerous little-known morphophysiological molecular mechanisms. this review paper we present an overview morpho-physiological adaptations shoot root, mechanisms involved response low nitrogen environment, genetic effects control key traits NUE. Some studies show that growing under deep root architecture, more lateral roots (LR), sparser branching LR, resulting lower metabolic costs. exhibit efficient photosynthesis, which affects suboptimal conditions. sense, obtaining superior genotypes can be achieved exploitation heterosis, as non-additive are important expression associated

Phenotyping for abiotic stress tolerance in maize.

The ability to quickly develop germplasm having tolerance to several complex polygenic inherited abiotic and biotic stresses combined is critical to the resilience of cropping systems in the face of climate change. Molecular breeding offers the tools to accelerate cereal breeding; however, suitable phenotyping protocols are essential to ensure that the much-anticipated benefits of molecular bre...

Breeding for abiotic stresses for sustainable agriculture.

Using cereal crops as examples, we review the breeding for tolerance to the abiotic stresses of low nitrogen, drought, salinity and aluminium toxicity. All are already important abiotic stress factors that cause large and widespread yield reductions. Drought will increase in importance with climate change, the area of irrigated land that is salinized continues to increase, and the cost of inorg...

the search for the self in becketts theatre: waiting for godot and endgame

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

Salicylic acid-induced abiotic stress tolerance and underlying mechanisms in plants

Abiotic stresses (such as metals/metalloids, salinity, ozone, UV-B radiation, extreme temperatures, and drought) are among the most challenging threats to agricultural system and economic yield of crop plants. These stresses (in isolation and/or combination) induce numerous adverse effects in plants, impair biochemical/physiological and molecular processes, and eventually cause severe reduction...

Breeding Maize for Drought Tolerance in the US Corn-Belt

The objective of this review is to promote discussion on some of the key issues we consider to be involved in successful long-term genetic improvement of corn for drought tolerance. Many of the concepts have been discussed elsewhere for different crops, traits and different breeding targets. Here we focus on how to organize a comprehensive effort to enable breeding for drought tolerance in a he...
